If you say the word patience and my name in the same sentence, it’s likely to elicit laughter from my family and my students. It is not one of my strengths. So you can imagine how well I’ve adapted to the wait and see world of publishing.
What has made the adjustment even harder is that I’m a procrastinator too. And no, the two things are not mutually exclusive. You see, I wrote simply for me for several years. In that time, I amassed a fairly large backlog of potentially publishable novel-length stories that simply sat on the computer until the fateful day when my husband lit the proverbial fire underneath my…um…behind.
That’s when the impatient side of me took over.
Within a month, I had entered one novel in a contest, and submitted its predecessor to a publisher. I landed the contract, won the contest category and began to look around to see how I could get things out even faster. Not content with one publisher, I decided I would send material to two. Or course, that’s had the downside of dealing with multiple edits and editors simultaneously.
But was that enough? Oh no. I then decided I would take a stab at indie publishing too. So my first indie-published book came out last week.
What I’ve discovered is it is a lot more work than submitting to a publisher. You become the content editor, the line editor, the cover artist and the publisher. If you’re going to put as much care into your indie books as those published by a regular publisher, then understand that it takes time and work. It also takes patience, so I’m trying.
My first Indie book is The Guardian Michel.
Michel recognizes Lilly as soon as he sees her. What he doesn't know is if she can accept the past they share and the vampire he has become. To regain her love and save her very life, he'll have to call on his brothers, The Guardians, for help. In the end, the choice is between Lilly's life and her love.
This book is approximately 86,700 words or 205 pages.
