Most people look at me and see this girl who looks sweet and innocent. Often times when I tell someone what kind of books I write, they are intrigued that I wrote something like that. Then comes the question, why did I choose erotic romance?
It’s simple. While I don’t always require a book to get as detailed as I write the intimate scenes, the last thing I want is for the author to just shut me out. A few years ago I was reading a popular author. The chemistry between the two characters was flying off the pages. When these two finally came together, I was excited. Then the author ended the scene and started later in the day. The characters didn’t even discuss what they did. I stared at my pages feeling unsatisfied. What did they do in that bedroom? How could she just shut me out?
It was then I knew I could never do that to a reader. If I was going to write romance, my readers were darn well gonna know what these two did between the sheets, or wherever they made it to before tearing each other’s clothes off.
I have read plenty of contemporaries that gave me enough that I didn’t need to know each detail. To be honest, when I wrote Amber’s Muse and decided to give it an erotic edge, it was more to see if I could do it. Could I actually write the dirty details? I then found, I could. I enjoyed it. I got to create what these two did. So, my style of being a contemporary romance author switched over to erotic contemporary romance author.
Do I plan to always write dirty? No, I plan to write something cleaner before long so my mom can read it. But for now, I hope I leave my readers satisfied and never staring at their e-reader wondering what just happened…or at least in the intimate department.
