Stuff Your Stocking Blogfest: Amy McCorkle

You know this time of year is always tough for me. While I absolutely LOVE it, all the Christmas specials Rudolph, the Grinch, Charlie Brown and the movies, It’s A Wonderful Life, Scrooged, and A Nightmare Before Christmas all help get me in the Christmas spirit. But sometimes the family dysfunction is a little overwhelming and can threaten to disrupt the holiday mood. LOL

So when it all threatens to be too much I sit down in front of the television, pop in Casino Royale and enjoy some wonderful eye candy and a terrific movie. But when I can’t do it I sit down in front of the computer and hope my Muse has something to whisper in my ear.

This year my Muse has given me a blessing. After scrabbling for stories for over a year NaNoWriMo brought me a novella and short story which has inspired a hopefully, a novel. The novella is the first planned in a trilogy. If you want to see what it is in it’s roughest form you can checkout my blogspot, Creative Chatter. The short story is on my Amy’s Short Tales blogspot.

Whereas last year I dealt with the loss of my best friend’s father in December. I have been blessed with a story I love while I wait to hear back on a story a sent in November. Being lost in story is my favorite way to deal with stress and while writer’s block is hideous when things are going good it’s easy to put things into perspective. I mean, who wouldn’t want to fantasize about Daniel Craig putting those well toned arms around you and his crystal blue eyes gazing dreamily into yours.

Although Set Fire To the Rain isn’t necessarily a straight ahead romance. It owes a lot to Winter’s Bone for atmosphere and my Kentucky roots come shining through. So even though this Christmas my imaginary world is filled with flawed characters doing flawed things I am as happy as a lark. I hope your Christmas is just as happy.

I am also excited to announce my first book is out. No Ordinary Love. Here is where you can find it for your own reading pleasure and where you can find me on a regular basis.

Christmas time can be depressing for many. To imagine other folks having such a great time and you are not can get one feeling sad. Actually not all are having as great of a time as you can imagine. I have found that doing things for someone else can bring joy into your own life. Buy some small toys for the youngsters in your own neighborhood. They will be thrilled and so will you.

Congrats on your debut, Amy! It sounds like your Christmas has both sweet and sad memories associated with it, as it does for many of us. Hoping you had some warm and joyful times this season, and blessings to you in the new year!
