Stuff Your Stocking Blogfest: Shelley Munro

The Sights and Sounds of Christmas

Christmas takes place during summer down my end of the world. My name is Shelley Munro and I live in Auckland, New Zealand. Instead of spending Christmas day inside huddling by the fire to keep warm, we’re outside and wearing our jandals (flipflops) and shorts.

So what does Christmas say to me?

It’s the warmth of sunshine beating down from overhead.

Sometimes, it’s the pitter patter of rain because it rains a lot in sub-tropical Auckland.

It’s the blare of the trumpet and crash of the drums when the Salvation Army band plays Christmas carols.

The bustle of people rushing around the shopping malls.

The tinny sound of piped Christmas carols.

The frazzled faces of mothers trying to do their shopping in the busy supermarket.

The cries of overtired children.

The shouts of excitement while watching the Christmas parade.

It’s the sizzle of meat hitting the barbecue.

The tinkle of ice cubes in glasses.

The scent of freshly mown grass.

The crunch of pavlova dessert.

The ho-ho-ho of Santa Claus.

The rip and tear of gift wrap.

The crimson of pohutakawa trees – our native Christmas tree.

These are some of the sights and sounds that say Christmas to me.

This year I have a Christmas story called Christmas is Coming, due out at Ellora’s Cave on 9 December. Here’s the blurb:

Christmas is coming. Give your lover the gift of pleasure…

Gaby Montgomery works for Fancy Free as a condom designer. Recently she’s been designing sex toys and testing her inventions with fellow designer Marc, but they’ve parted ways. The timing couldn’t be worse because she’s stuck without a willing test subject for her sexy products.

Gaby’s roommates Liam Richardson and Fletch Darcy both want a serious relationship with Gaby, and now that she’s free, it’s time to make a move. But how do they decide which one will date Gaby? Fletch finally suggests they share her. Liam is skeptical but agrees the scheme might work, which allows Fletch to move on to step two of his romance plan. Fletch doesn’t just want Gaby, he wants Liam as well.

The loving is hot, their days full of fun product testing, exquisite pleasure and laughter. Everything is perfect until the outside world intrudes, putting their budding relationship under stress. This time their love and friendship might not stand the pressure.

Publisher’s Note: Want to have more fun with the characters in this book, including finding out more about those spaceship sightings, then pick up Fancy Free along with the books in the Talking Dog series. They’re an out-of-this world experience.

Blurb for your book sounds like that is a hot and sexy read.
I always enjoy the sights and sounds of Christmas, but this year, we don't have any snow, so it isn't as Christmasy feeling.
Happy Holidays.

Hi Shelley!

Since I come from a musical family Christmas at my house was filled with laughing and singing and all the brothers grabbing their musical instruments for a all out jam session. Good memories.

Have a wonderful Holiday in that nice summer place!

Having Christmas during warm weather isn't totally odd to me although I live in the states. Most winters in the past we have had no freezes, although this past winter we had three very hard freezes and most all of our tropical plants were killed. I live in South Texas.

Kaye, a musical jam sounds like lots of fun! I hope your Christmas is a good one too.

Debby - we're coming for a walk tonight to look at the lights. That's always fun.

Thanks, Wanda :)

Bookworm - I haven't actually heard much Christmas music this year, but I do like to hear the odd song or two.

Gladys - that's no good. It's actually been colder than usual this year. We've had a heap of rain too.

Hello Shelley,
The sites & sounds of our family christmas is the beautiful christmas lights & decoration & watching the Local Fire Department drive Santa around on the Fire Truck, sounding the Sirens to let the children know he is in the neighborhood. They all run outside & get to give Santa their Christmas List & it brings such a smile to my face seeing the little ones so happy to have something so special for them to believe in.
Thank you Shelley for sharing the Excerpt from "Christmas if Coming", it sounds like a really exciting read & the Cover is very Hot! I would very much appreicate being entered into your draw to win a download of one of your books, set in the same country town as "Christmas is Coming". Any of the the following books of yours would be GREAT to win:

Fancy Free
Talking Dogs, Aliens & People Eaters
Never Send a Dog to do a Woman’s Job
Romantic Interlude
Take Care & Happy Holidays,

LOL! Hi, Shelley! Love your Christmas sights and sounds! This year's for us were some happy laughs as the kids pulled out the silly fun they had in store in their stockings and their gifts. And the air was scented with the smell of a garlicky, spiced roast, buttery mashed potatoes, pies, biscuits, and then the fruity smell of the sparkling juice and wine.

Hope your celebrating was merry and memorable!
